Nature in North Limburg

When thinking of Limburg, we often imagine the hills in the south, but North Limburg also offers its own hilly surprises. These include hillside forests and swamp forests, as well as heathlands and fens. It’s an adventurous and sometimes slightly slippery walk through the wet woods, so be sure to wear good shoes!

North Limburg owes its natural beauty to the Rhine and the Meuse. Over the centuries, they have formed a wonderfully varied landscape. From the ancient Maas meanders of Schuitwater and the swampy marsh forests of Koelbroek to the buzzing grasslands of Vlakbroek and the drifting sands of Schaaks Heide. This great variety also brings many special animal and plant species. North Limburg is in no way inferior to its southern counterpart!
