The Limburg Museum
The Limburg Museum
During your stay at Parkhotel Horst, a visit to this Limburg-themed Museum is definitely worth your while! The museum is located in the Julianapark in North Limburg, Venlo. This is just a 20-minute drive from our hotel! The museum is one of the three provincial museums in (Dutch) Limburg; the other two are the Discovery Center Continium in Kerkrade and the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht.
In the museum, you will discover how the history of the Netherlands began thousands of years ago. How did the first people and farmers settle? How did Christians live, how did the Romans enter our country, and how did the cities in the Netherlands originate? Here, you will find answers to all these questions and many more about our past.
Book a roomA Museum of Culture and History
The museum brings the history and culture of Limburg to life. They do this with engaging stories for young and old, interactive exhibitions, and various events. The museum is for everyone, whether you were born in Limburg or come from other provinces.
Not only the museum itself, but also its location is very special. The building stands on the site where the city walls and fortifications of the city of Venlo used to lay for centuries.
A piece of History
The Limburg-themed museum originated in September 1993 from the merger of the Goltzius Museum in Venlo and the Limburg Folklore Center in Limbricht. The Goltzius Museum was housed in the Goltzuis building and served as the communal museum of Venlo. Its foundation was based on a collection of historical objects and art from the city of Venlo. The Limburg Folklore Center in Limbricht was designated as a provincial museum by the Limburg Provincial Government in 1987. Its collection was initially acquired from a bankrupt Peat Museum. Plans to relocate to Venlo and merge the Limburg Folklore Center with the Goltzius Museum, potentially with another Limburg institution, were made at the end of 1989.
