Huys ter Horst castle
Huys Ter Horst Castle is unmissable for passers-by and residents of Horst aan de Maas. Its ruins, its stories and history have a place in the hearts of Horst residents. From the A73, Huys ter Horst castle is a fascinating landmark that towers mightily above the Kasteelse Bossen.
Since 2000, Huys ter Horst Castle has been owned by the foundation of the same name, which is run by volunteers. The organisation aims to preserve and make accessible the municipality’s cultural heritage, such as the castle ruins and all other properties worthy of preservation.
Huys ter Horst castle
Centuries ago, ‘Huys ter Horst’ was the summer residence of the Lord of Horst. They love to show what there is to do at the Horst castle during ‘Kasteel Bewoond’. Keep an eye on their calendar for the current dates for this impressive event.
Come and see and listen how Willem Vincent van Wittenhorst archived his rich collection of paintings so that they are still quite recognisable today. Are plants already growing in the herb garden of the spice lady? How did the castle come into being and what construction phases have there been over the years?
Find out about life on and around the castle in earlier times. Listen to stories about the castle and the Middle Ages. Or let your imagination run wild with a story from the storyteller. For the children there will be games on the inner castle and a treasure hunt, will you join the search for the treasure of ‘The Mad Count?’
Entrance is €1.00 for those up to 12 years old and €4.00 for those aged 13 and over (debit cards are available).
Please note that the grounds of Huys ter Horst Castle are not accessible everywhere.
